Masundvwini

The MOM (Masundvwini Orphan Meals) Project was started by members of the Fairview and Tubungu Church of Christ and staff at African Christian College. When we arrived in January 2009, this project provided one healthy meal per week for about 100 orphaned and vulnerable children in this community. By March 2009, Mission Providence was able to expand to 2 meals per week. Through the dedicated efforts of Don Baraball for donations of chicken and eggs from local providers, this project has continued successfully without further financial assistance from us.

Stephen and Esme, along with ACC students as interpreters, visited all the homesteads of these children to research their individual situation. Thankfully, we were able to determine that the vast majority were living in a safe, loving home with immediate or extended family. One exception was the tragic discovery of a child led home where a 13 year old girl had been sexually abused by her older brother/cousin. Stephen and Esme were able to remove her from this terrible situation and Mission Providence sponsored her to live at a safe house for abused girls for 6 months where she found much needed comfort and healing. She is now living with her biological father and Mission Providence still pays for her schooling.
